The MFL MarMac girls wrestling team wrapped up the 2022 portion of its schedule Dec. 20, in a quad at St. Ansgar. The meet marked the Bulldogs’ first duals this season.

With only six wrestlers, MFL MarMac fell victim to forfeits against some larger squads in its three losses. The Bulldogs wrestled hard when they were able to face opponents, though.

That included falls for Amelya Weigand (115 pounds) and Kadence Pape (120) in the narrow 36-30 loss to Nashua-Plainfield. Mackenzie Bachman (135), Danica Friedlein (145) and Audrey Ruff (155) all earned victories by forfeit. Melody Grimm was pinned in her 125-pound match.

Weigand and Pape each earned their second falls of the night in the dual with North Central, while Bachman secured her first. Grimm, Friedlein and Ruff were all pinned by their opponents, however, contributing to a 60-18 Bulldog loss.

In the 33-21 loss to Postville, MFL MarMac was boosted by a fall from Bachman and a 5-0 decision win for Friedlein. Pape and Grimm both won due to forfeit. Weigand succumbed late in her 115-pound match, while Ruff lost by sudden victory, 4-2.

The Bulldogs’ first competition after winter break will be Friday, Jan. 6, at the Central Girls Invitational in Elkader.
