Roger William Anderegg, 85, of Guttenberg, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 4, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Guttenberg. Visitation was before services at the church.

Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Roger was born on May 11, 1937, in Millville Township, the son of Rae and Alvina (Behrend) Anderegg.

He received his education locally and graduated from the Guttenberg High School and farmed for many years.  On June 10, 1967, Roger was united in marriage with Ardith Hempeler at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Garnavillo and this union blessed them with two children, Mark and Donna.

Roger and Ardith made their life together, farming for forty years on the dairy and beef farm where Roger grew up. Roger and Ardith were life-long members of St. John’s church where Roger served on the church council. In addition to serving his church community, Roger’s commitment to the farm was a testament to his dedication and love for his family. His long days of hard work provided an abundant life for his wife and children. Roger was also a much-loved uncle by his nieces and nephews, always having time for them when they visited the farm to do chores together or go on tractor rides.

While Roger was happiest on the farm, he ventured later in life, traveling across the United States and Canada visiting his children and then overseas to Costa Rica, China, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia and the Philippines. Roger’s favorite role, though, was that of being a grandpa to Collin and Connor, enjoying every summer when they returned to the farm from their overseas life. He especially enjoyed watching them swim competitively, a quiet observer on deck. Roger became known as Grandpa Roger by many of the boys’ teammates at DASH, and he followed many of these athletes through their high school and collegiate careers.

Roger’s love, steadfastness, guidance, and encouragement impacted the lives of all his family, and his memory will forever be held in the hearts of his daughter, Donna (David) Schuster; grandsons, Collin and Connor Schuster; sisters, Ramonna (Robert) Miller and Rita (Carl) Aulwes; and many other family members and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his wife; son, Mark; his parents, and brother, Robert.

Roger’s family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Eagle Ridge and the Guttenberg Care Center for their kindness and compassion shown to Roger and his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Roger’s memory to the Dubuque Area Swimmin’ Hurricanes (DASH), P.O. Box 1062, Dubuque, Iowa 52004-1062.
