It was another stretch of blowout victories for the MFL MarMac boys basketball team, who out-scored Postville and Turkey Valley a combined 180-75 in wins last week.

 

The efforts improved the Bulldogs to 14-1 overall and 10-0 in the Upper Iowa Conference.

 

MFL MarMac connected on 44.3 percent of its shots, including nine of 28 three pointers, in the 91-43 win over Postville on Jan. 17.

 

The Pirates shot 34.1 percent and drained only three long-range attempts. They were also significantly out-rebounded, 57-21, with just seven second-chance scoring opportunities. MFL MarMac’s defense made it even tougher with 16 steals.

 

Bulldog sophomore Parker Kuehl dropped 20 points—12 of which came from behind the arc—and added six rebounds, five steals and three assists.

 

Fourteen points and 10 rebounds gave junior Carver Blietz-Bentien a double-double, while fellow junior Wyatt Powell also chipped in 14 points and a team-high six steals along with five assists and four rebounds.

 

Sophomore Zach Driscoll hit three of five three-point attempts for nine of his 13 points. His seven assists and three blocks were tops on the team, and he picked up eight rebounds and two steals.

 

Landyn Miene chipped in 12 points, six rebounds, an assist and a block off the bench.

 

MFL MarMac didn’t take its foot off the gas in the Jan. 20 game with Turkey Valley, jumping out to a 56-12 halftime lead that morphed into an 89-32 win.

 

The Bulldogs hit another six three pointers, contributing to 54.4 percent shooting from the field. The team was also successful on nine of 11 free throws.

 

Blietz-Bentien led the way with 21 points on 7-10 shooting, and collected six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

 

Kuehl hit eight of 12 shots, and two of four from long range, for 18 points. His stat line also included five rebounds, four steals, an assist and one of MFL MarMac’s four blocks.

 

Driscoll tallied 16 points and team highs in assists and steals, with seven apiece, in addition to eight rebounds and a block.

 

Brock Hackett netted 11 points, two steals, an assist and a block off the bench, while  Hunter Meyer was the Bulldogs’ top rebounder, with 10. He also had two steals, an assist and one point.

 

Two games are on tap for MFL MarMac this week: at NFV on Jan. 24, then a home match-up with West Central Jan. 27.
