High jump, sprints highlight UIC meet for Bulldogs

The MFL MarMac girls track and field team turned in top-five finishes spread across both running and field events at the May 4 Upper Iowa Conference meet at Clayton Ridge.
One of those came in the high jump, where sophomore Maria Stavroplus cleared 4-04 feet for fourth place.
Hannah Bogdonovich led the team in the sprints, placing fourth in the 400 and fifth in the 200, in what were her first individual races this season. Stavroplus was 14th in the 200 and Melanie Ruff raced to 12th in the 100. Bayleigh Wood claimed 14th in the 100 hurdles.
The distance races were highlighted by respective seventh- and ninth-place finishes by Evelyn Ruff and Emma Koether. Audrey Ruff crossed the line 12th in the 1500.
In the relays, MFL MarMac earned its best finish in the distance medley, where Stavroplus, Wood, M. Ruff and E. Ruff combined for fifth.
The squad of Stavroplus, A. Ruff, E. Ruff and M. Ruff placed eighth in the 4x100.
The Bulldogs tallied 22 team points, placing them eighth of nine teams. Central won the meet with 169 points, edging second-place South Winneshiek’s 163.
This week, MFL MarMac will head to the Class 2A state qualifying meet at Monticello on Thursday, May 11.
