The MFL MarMac boys track and field team won five events—and earned an additional nine top-three finishes—at the May 4 Upper Iowa Conference meet at Clayton Ridge.

That placed the Bulldogs second as a team, their 134 points trailing only North Fayette Valley’s 162.

Two of those conference championships came from senior Karter Decker in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, where he turned in respective times of 11.42 and 23.04 seconds. Teammate Wyatt Powell was right behind him in the 100, with a time of 11.75, while Koda Warrington claimed sixth in the 200 after crossing in 25.55 seconds.

Brandon Christofferson raced to third in the 400, and Keith Anderson was 15th in that event and 14th in the 800-meter run. Brent Roe was MFL MarMac’s only other distance runner, placing 13th in the 1600.

Freshman Carter Streicher turned in a pair of solid finishes in the hurdles, including third in the 110-meter event and fourth in the 400. Tucker Ruff placed sixth in the 110 hurdles.

The relays were highlighted by another school record-setting performance in the 4x100. Powell, Carver Blietz-Bentien, Kade McElwaine and Decker combined for a time of 44.45 seconds, breaking their own mark of 44.69 set the week prior. The relay was first at the UIC meet, as was MFL MarMac’s 4x200, which featured McElwaine, Blietz-Bentien, Parker Kuehl and Decker. That group completed the race in 1:34.37.

The 4x400 squad of Eli Hanson, Ruff, Carter Streicher and Jaxon Millage were conference runners-up, and another three relays—the shuttle hurdle and sprint and distance medleys—placed third. Izayah Streicher, Anderson, Ruff and Carter Streicher made up the shuttle hurdle team, while Powell, Blietz-Bentien, McElwaine and I. Streicher formed the sprint med and Warrington, I. Streicher, Millage and Ruff the distance med.

MFL MarMac’s fifth conference championship came in the high jump, where sophomore Parker Kuehl cleared 5-08—two inches higher than his competitors.

Hunter Christofferson placed seventh in the event and was also fourth in the discus and seventh in the shot put. Teammate Aiden Schoulte threw his way to third in the shot and eighth in the discus.

In the long jump, Bulldogs Hanson and Warrington leapt to a respective third and fourth with jumps of 18-00.5 and 17-11.50 feet.

Next up for MFL MarMac is the Class 2A state qualifying meet at Monticello on Thursday, May 11.
