For the second straight year, the MFL MarMac boys golfers are Upper Iowa Conference regular season and tournament champions.

The Bulldogs handily won the tournament—played May 8 at Big Rock Country Club in Fayette—with a score of 316 over 18 holes. South Winneshiek was second at 346, followed by North Fayette Valley with 353.

Three of the top four individual golfers were also Bulldogs, including conference champ Quinn McGeough. The sophomore shot a 73, giving him a five-stroke advantage over teammate Ben Krambeer.

NFV’s Nick Koch placed third with an 80, and Joe Grau of MFL MarMac was right behind him with an 81.

Sawyer Keehner claimed the sixth spot with an 84, and Nick Krambeer scored an 85 to tie for eighth. Jonah Wille rounded out the Bulldogs’ scores with a 93, which tied him for 19th.

MFL MarMac hoped to carry over that success into the Class 2A sectional at New Hampton on May 10, but the team met with some strong competition.

New Hampton won the meet with a 298 over 18 holes, followed closely by a 300 from Hudson. Oelwein edged MFL MarMac 313-317 to claim the third slot and advance on to districts.

Caleb Ham from Hudson shot a 69 for first place individually, while New Hampton’s Kyler Glenn and Jack Shawver tied for second with a 71.

B. Krambeer shot a 78, tying him for eighth and advancing him on to districts. Unfortunately, he was the only Bulldog to move on, as McGeough placed 12th with a 79 and Grau and N. Krambeer tied for 14th after shooting 80s. Keehner came in 21st with an 85, and Wille took 29th with an 89.

Krambeer golfed in the Class 2A Dike-New Hartford district at Fox Ridge Golf Course on May 15, for a chance to make it to state.
