Wauzeka-Steuben High School 2023 Salutatorian Desirae Mormann

Lily Mitchell has been named the Valedictorian and Desirae Mormann has been named the Salutatorian of the Wauzeka-Steuben High School 2023 graduating class.
   

Lily is the daughter of Bart and Amy Mitchell. She has been very active throughout her high school career while excelling academically. Lily has earned high honors all four years, earning herself an academic letter and four pins for her excellence in the classroom. She was most recently named to the Ridge and Valley All-Academic Team. Furthermore, Lily has challenged herself by taking a rigorous course load that contained a variety of AP courses and dual credit courses.
 

Lily has been actively involved in a number of extra-curricular activities over the past four years.  She has participated in FFA, Hornet Council, NHS, Science Club, DECA, Forensics, and Math Team. She has held many leadership positions within these clubs and organizations. She has made state appearances in both Forensics and DECA. In regards to FFA, Lily had earned the FFA Greenland Degree and the FFA Chapter Degree. She has also successfully competed in many FFA sponsored events. Athletically, Lily has participated in volleyball, cross country, basketball, and track. She has received various accolades for her sportsmanship over the years within these activities. Outside of school, Lily has been very active in Crawford County 4-H. She has been awarded the 4-H Key Award and has served in an officer capacity within the club throughout high school. Lily has also served on the National Junior Limousin Board of Directors. Lily has been chosen by the Wauzeka-Steuben staff to represent the district in many leadership capacities over the years. She has been selected as a Badger Girls State delegate, a Wisconsin Leadership Seminar participant, and as the DAR Good Citizen recipient. Lily has been very involved in her community, assisting with youth Lions Club tournaments, church pancake breakfasts, roadside cleanups, blood drives, 4-H youth camps and projects, and the annual Veteran’s Day program. Lily works on her family’s farm, Spring Creeks Cattle Company, and is very active in its operation. Her roles include assisting in making breeding decisions for the mature cow herd, calving in cows during the winter and spring months, and halter breaking and preparing around 30 head of bulls and heifers for various sales and shows that the company goes to around the country. In addition, she takes pride in marketing her family’s beef at Farmer’s Markets. She also provides babysitting services and assists Marshview Farms in harvesting and selling their asparagus.
 

Lily plans to attend UW-Platteville to major in Ag Business with a minor in Animal Science. Lily would like to first and foremost thank her family for pushing her to be the best that she can possibly be. From day one they knew she could do anything she put her mind to and never let her forget it. Their constant support has been extremely important to her and has allowed her to be as involved as she is in things. Lily would also like to thank Wauzeka Steuben School and staff for being incredibly supportive throughout her years. She would not be able to have accomplished what she has up to this point and what she hopes to achieve in the future without the community, staff, friends and family that she was fortunate enough to have growing up.
 

Salutatorian, Desirae Mormann is the daughter of Nathan and Megan Mormann.  Desirae has achieved academic high honors all four years, earning herself an academic letter and four pins for her excellence in the classroom. She was recently named to the Ridge and Valley All-Academic Team. She was also selected as Student of the Month several times throughout high school. Desirae has participated in Math Team, Science Club, and the School Newspaper. She has been very active in the art program and is a gifted artist. Outside of school, Desirae has worked throughout high school, previously at the Wauzeka BP and currently at Dunkin Donuts. Desirae plans to enter the workforce after graduation.
 

Desirae would like to thank her family, friends, and teachers for their support over the years.
