Bobby G. Rice is a country music legend. With nine albums to his credit and thirty songs that charted on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart Rice is still going strong on the performance circuit.  On June 3 Rice will be performing at Good Ol’ Fashioned Barn Dance at Memories on Maple.

In July 31, 1971 was the first time that Rice appeared on the Grand Ole Opry. “It was a huge experience. What a feeling for a singer!” comments Rice. “I was on Roy Acoff segment. Then the following years I was on multiple times in the seventies and eighties. I think it was a dozen or fifteen times I was on the Opry.”  In his personal collection Rice has the audios of his first times on the Opry as well as the programs.

In 1972 Rice collaborated with Donald Riis, and Charlie Fields on his biggest hit You Lay So Easy On My Mind. “This was the first song we released and it went to the top of the charts,” notes Rice. “I am honored to have legendary artists record a cover of this song.” You Lay So Easy On My Mind has been covered over 34 times by the likes of Pat Roberts, Roy Orbison, Kenny Price, Pat Boone, and was even turned into a duet by Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty.

The doors for the event will open at 3 pm so people can visit with Rice and the performance will be from 4 - 8 pm. Dan Kouba from Hillsboro, is opening for Rice. Dr Rumley’s Snuff Band is following Rice, from 8-midnight. The cost to enter is a monetary donation of your choice. Inside the barn, there will be plenty of seating. Outside, there are hay bales, but if you would like to bring your own chair to sit in, you are more than welcome to do so. There will be food to purchase and no carry-ins allowed. The event is being hosted by the Wisconsin River Trail Organization.

Memories on Maple located just 3 ½ miles south on 61 from Boscobel heading towards Fennimore.  Any questions, please feel free to reach out to Denise Fisher at 507-269-2606 or DeniseFisher5995@gmail.com.
Funds raised from the event will go toward the Wisconsin River Trail Organization to match an 80/20 TAPS grant award. The WRTO is a non-profit and needs to raise about $500,000 for the matching grant. It will fund construction for phase 2A, which heads 3 1/2 miles towards Woodman on Hwy 133 to Cozy Acres.
