Five top-15 times propel MFL MarMac girls to second at Elkader meet

Five runners finished within the top 15 to propel the MFL MarMac girls cross country team into second place at the Sept. 19 meet in Elkader. The Bulldogs finished with 39 points, 12 behind first place South Winneshiek, who is ranked fifth in Class 1A.
For the second straight meet, freshman Taryn Moser was the top finisher for MFL MarMac. She crossed the line sixth with a time of 22:48.5. Teammates Cora Keehner, Brooke Donlon and Charlotte Meyer were in the seventh through ninth positions with respective times of 22:59.1, 23:06.3 and 23:06.9. Skylar Fisk rounded out the Bulldogs’ top five with a 15th-place effort in 24:38.9.
Kennedy Bachman was close behind Fisk in 16th place and Evelyn Ruff took 25th. Emma Koether was 35th, Lauryn Sandstrom 40th, Emma Driscoll 44th and Mariah Moser 46th.
A trio of MFL MarMac boys also competed in the meet, the top time coming from Jacob Schellhorn. The senior turned in an 18:25.0 to place sixth. It was his third top-10 finish this season.
Logan Ross was 59th, and no time was posted for Payton Schultz.
The Bulldogs will run at two meets this week: at Waukon on Sept. 24, then at Grundy Center on Sept. 26.
