Jo Marie Thein, 78, of Edgewood, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, at HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center in Scottsdale, Ariz. She was born on Nov. 17, 1946, in Menomonie, Wis., the daughter of Thomas and June (Debee) Neverdahl. Jo Marie was raised in the Menomonie area and was a graduate of Menomonie High School. She later attended Clarke College in Dubuque.

 

On Dec. 17, 1966, Jo Marie was united in marriage to Lawrence “Butch” Thein at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Menomonie, Wis. One daughter, Patricia, was born to this union. Jo Marie worked as a waitress and helped on the family farm. Jo Marie helped in creating the Morning Mist Cabins in Garber.

 

Jo Marie was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church until it closed and then became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garnavillo. She enjoyed playing golf, cards and boating. Jo Marie loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

 

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Lawrence “Butch” Thein; her daughter, Patricia (Loras) Gerner of Garber; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Ethan) Christianson and Jared Gerner; six siblings, Dan (Pam) Neverdahl, Tom (Sue) Neverdahl, Mike Neverdahl, Pat (Cindy) Neverdahl, Lee (Kari) Neverdahl and Lisa (Lester) Gribble; sister-in-law, Kathryn Brown; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Jo Marie was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Tim (Mary) Neverdahl.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood, with Reverend John Haugen officiating.

 

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood. Friends may also call from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church on Wednesday.

 

Interment will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Elkport.
