Bulldogs breeze past Central, Postville

The MFL MarMac boys basketball team netted a pair of convincing wins over Central and Postville last week, improving to 15-3 overall and 12-1 in the Upper Iowa Conference.
Central stuck with the Bulldogs through the first half of the Jan. 28 match-up in Monona, down six points after the first quarter and nine after the second. MFL MarMac went on a 23-5 scoring blitz in the third period, however, to pull away 59-32. They won 71-47.
The Bulldogs landed over 46 percent of their shots, including seven three-pointers. The defense supported the effort with 14 steals and 10 blocks. Central turned the ball over 23 times total.
Carter Lightfoot sank four of six shots from behind the arc, for 12 of his 22 points. He also dished out five assists and had two steals, a rebound and a block.
Landyn Miene recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, and was responsible for six blocks.
Parker Kuehl finished the night with 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals, while Eli Hanson was six of eight from the field for 13 points.
MFL MarMac’s offense continued to rain threes—13 of them, to be exact—in an 86-50 victory over visiting Postville on Jan. 31. The Bulldogs shot over 48 percent from the field while reaching their season high in points.
Kuehl was a nearly perfect six of seven from three-point range, and led the team with 24 points. He reached double-double status with 10 rebounds, and also had five assists and three steals.
Miene earned his second double-double of the week with 20 points and 14 rebounds, after landing 71 percent of his shots. He collected two assists, a steal and a block as well.
Lightfoot’s stat line included 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals. Brock Hackett made a trio of threes for all nine of his points, while totaling four assists and two rebounds.
The Bulldogs have two more Upper Iowa Conference games on their schedule this week: a home match-up with West Central on Feb. 4, then at Kee on Feb. 7.
