The Prairie du Chien Girls Wrestling team traveled to Belmont High School this past Friday night to take part in the second SWAL-SWC Girls Clash. The tournament also featured teams from the Ridge & Valley and Scenic Bluffs Conferences to help fill out the tournament.
The Hawks placed third as a team after scoring 85.0 points with just five wrestlers. Winning the tournament was Kickapoo/La Farge/Youth Initiative with 94.5 points (and 11 wrestlers) while Lancaster was second with 90.0 points (and six wrestlers).
Prairie du Chien had the most individual champs of any team with three. Earning individual championships for the Hawks were Rosalie Kossman (100 pounds), Aspen Gelo (120 pounds) and Irelynd Cejka (138 pounds). Cejka defended her title from last year’s tournament to become a two-time champion.
Also placing for Prairie du Chien was Addyson Claycomb (fourth place at 185 pounds) and Hannah Ingham (sixth place at 132 pounds).
The postseason journey begins this Friday with the regional meet at Mineral Point High School starting at 4 pm. The first four finishers at each weight class will qualify for next week’s sectional meet at Prairie du Chien High School.
