Jennifer Lynn Olson, 61, of Elkader, passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at the Elkader Care Center. She was born Feb. 17, 1964, in Elkader, to Edward W. and Ruth Mary (Wayne) Olson.

 

Jennifer was a gift from God to her family and all those who loved her. She was born with Down’s syndrome and accomplished many challenges in her life. She was always happy and smiling—flashing a smile that could touch your heart.

 

She graduated from Garnavillo - Special Education Program in 1985. She worked for Rise LTD in Elkader from 1985 to 2009, retiring after her father passed away.

 

Jennifer lived with her mother at the Elkader Care Center, and passed away on her mother’s 91st birthday.

 

She is survived by her mother, Ruth Mary Olson of Elkader; sisters, Melissa (Edmund) Patrick and Cindy (Mike) Cook of Elkader; nieces and nephews, Michelle Cook of Tennessee, Michael (Jennifer) Cook of North Carolina, Heather Patrick of Waterloo, Dr. Stephanie (Jeremy Cook) McGirt of North Carolina and Ben (Earl) Patrick of Cedar Falls; five great nieces; four great-nephews; one great-great-nephew; and many more who loved her.

 

Jennifer was preceded in death by her father, Edward W. Olson; Hans, her longtime pet dog; and great-nephew, Jonathan Cole McGirt.

 

Graveside services will be held at a later date at East Side Cemetery in Elkader.

 

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elkader is assisting the family.
