Warriors’ outdoor season starts with sixth place finish at Waukon

The Central boys track and field team got the outdoor season underway April 3, at Waukon. The Warriors finished sixth out of eight teams, scoring 57.5 points, and came away with one individual victory by Mason Loan in the 400-meter dash.
In the other sprint races, Loan pulled out a seventh place finish in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.4 seconds, followed by Griffen Hammersland in eighth. Both athletes also ran in the 200, with Loan crossing in fifth place, less than half a second out of first, while Hammersland was seventh. The 400-meter dash also featured Gavin Holst in third place, less than a second behind teammate Loan.
Breckon Holst and Carter Krugger ran in the 400-meter hurdles, placing 12th and 13th, respectively.
In the distance races, a trio of Warriors ran in the 800, including Jesse Polkinghorn in 10th place, followed by Tyce Zittergruen in 13th and Henry Reimer in 14th. Holst was back in action in the 1600, where a 5:03.05 time brought him to fourth place. Carson Ruegnitz finished sixth, Michael White eighth and Declan Finley ninth. Holst also secured fifth place in the 3200, with Ruegnitz claiming seventh.
The Warriors competed in six relays, starting with a third-place finish in the 4x100 with Griffen Hammersland, Owen Hammersland, Zittergruen and Loan. The team of Jacob Cook, Jamison Feickert, Jake Hertrampf and Reimer placed seventh in the 4x200, and in the 4x400, Vaughn and Tyce Zittergruen, Reimer and Holst took fourth. It was a fifth-place finish in the 4x800 for Finley, White, Breckon Holst and Krugger.
Additionally, Central was fourth in the 800-meter sprint medley relay, narrowly missing third by a tenth of a second thanks to the effort of Griffen and Owen Hammersland, Polkinghorn and Reimer. In the 1600 distance medley, Feickert, Hertrampf, Polkinghorn and Tyce Zittergruen finished sixth.
In the field events, Feickert finished 11th in long jump and Hertrampf was 10th in the high jump. The Warriors sent two throwers into the shot put, with Cook taking 11th and Jullian Singleton 12th. Singleton was 13th in the discus, while Elias White finished 10th.
Next for the Warriors is a meet at Edgewood-Colesburg on April 8. They’ll compete April 10 at Postville.
