The MFL MarMac boys track and field team placed second at the rain shortened MFL MarMac Coed Invite on April 17. Their 93 points trailed only the 102 put up by Edgewood-Colesburg.
The Bulldogs won five events, including three of the five relays in which they participated. Parker Kuehl, Carter Lightfoot, Anthony Bunting and Kashton Decker made up both the winning 4x200 and sprint medley relays, while Bryce Jones, Carter Stoddard, Tucker Ruff and Carter Streicher powered MFL MarMac to the top spot in the shuttle hurdle relay.
Blake Schutte, Adian Reynolds, Hunter Bogdonovich and Rylan Schroeder combined for third place in the 4x800, and Jones, Stoddard, Schutte and Reynolds helped MFL MarMac place fourth in the distance medley relay.
In the individual running events, the 110 hurdles were a highlight, as Streicher and Ruff finished a respective first and third. Decker continued his sprint success by winning the 100-meter dash. Teammate Averey Thornton was eighth.
Schroeder raced his way to fourth place in the 400-meter dash, ahead of Dante Thornton in the 11th slot. Thornton was also 10th in the 800, behind Bogdonovich in eighth.
More strong finishes came in the field events, where Kuehl was runner-up in the long jump and Lightfoot climbed to third in the high jump. Jaxon Millage placed fourth in both the shot put and discus, while A. Thornton was seventh and sixth in the respective events.
The Bulldogs’ success in their home meet followed a sixth-place result at the Decorah Boys Relays on April 14. Down multiple athletes due to a soccer game falling on the same night, MFL MarMac competed in only two relays, winning the sprint medley and taking second in the shuttle hurdle.
Streicher and Ruff went one-two in the 400-meter hurdles at Decorah, and Stoddard crossed the finish line fifth. Streicher and Ruff also ran in the 110-meter event, placing a respective sixth and eighth.
The sprints saw Decker race to sixth place in the 100, then fourth in the 200. Bunting was 11th in the 100 and eighth in the 200. Millage earned ninth in the 400, and Bogdonovich and D. Thornton finished the 800 in seventh and ninth places. Reynold represented MFL MarMac in the distance races, with a sixth-place result in the 1600 and ninth in the 3200.
In the field events, Millage threw his way to seventh in the shot put and eighth in the discus. A. Thornton was 12th in the shot put and improved his placing by one spot in the discus.
This week, the Bulldogs were slated to attend the Decorah Boys Invite on April 21, then North Fayette Valley on April 25.
