Robert Kurdelmeyer

At a meeting on April 24, the Clayton County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved terminating Clayton County Information Technology (IT) Director Robert Kurdelmeyer, who, the previous day, was arrested by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office on multiple charges related to possession of child pornography.
According to a press release, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant at 76 State St., in Clermont, on April 23. The search stemmed from a several-months-long investigation that determined Kurdelmeyer, 63, possessed a large amount of child pornography.
Referencing the criminal complaint, Clayton County Attorney Zach Herrmann, who attended the April 24 meeting along with Clayton County department heads, said Kurdelmeyer’s laptop was found by a neighbor in front of Kurdelmeyer’s home on State Street. Analysis discovered approximately 700 videos and 4,000 photos of minors engaged in various sexual situations.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said numerous computers were seized from Kurdelmeyer’s residence, and Kurdelmeyer was arrested and charged with numerous counts of purchase/possess depiction of minor in a sex act - first offense, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison for each count.
Per the sheriff’s office, the investigation is continuing, with more charges pending.
Kurdelmeyer was transported to the Fayette County Jail, where he was held on $20,000 bond, but later bonded out, according to Herrmann.
“He bonded out with a corporate surety, where a bond company puts up the money and he puts up a smaller amount. So he has been released from custody,” Herrmann said.
Doug Reimer, chair of the Clayton County Supervisors, called the day a sad one for Clayton County.
“It’s a sad day for the people in the pictures and a sad day for Bob’s family,” he added. “We just have to move forward. This is a business and we have to take care of it as a business.”
After voting to terminate Kurdelmeyer, the supervisors agreed to post for the IT director position.
