Elkader
The Lemka-Stendel American Legion Post #106 in Elkader will observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 26, by honoring the post’s namesake veterans who were both killed at the time of the signing of the Armistice ending World War I. Both men are buried in Elkader, and the Legion continues to honor them by identifying them in the name of the post.
The remembrance will start at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery, then proceed to the veterans memorial near the city park. It will continue to the East Side Cemetery and conclude at the Clayton County Courthouse, where a wreath will be placed by the American Legion Auxiliary at the veterans memorial.
Garnavillo
Clay-Gar Post 723 will hold its Memorial Day service at the Clayton Ridge gym in Garnavillo at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 26. The ceremony will recognize all auxiliary members and veterans from the past to present who have passed.
Guttenberg
Guttenberg will pay tribute to veterans both living and dead at the community’s annual Memorial Day program on Monday, May 26, at 10 a.m., at the Guttenberg Area Veterans Memorial in Ingleside Park.
McGregor
Members of American Legion Post 267 of McGregor and Post 305 of Marquette will observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 26, with a series of events.
The McGregor Memorial Day Parade will kick off activities at 10 a.m. Lineup will be at 9:30 a.m. at the MFL MarMac McGregor Center. The route will go down Main Street, passing Triangle Park and turning right on First Street, to end at the First Street Parking Lot. Businesses, organizations and individuals are still welcome to participate. Following the parade, the public is invited to attend the Memorial Day service at 11 a.m., near the Avenue of Flags at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor. The MFL MarMac band will perform, and eighth grade students will recite the “Gettysburg Address” and “In Flanders Fields.” A keynote address will follow, then a 21-gun salute and taps.
St. Olaf
The St. Olaf Legion will hold Memorial Day services on Monday, May 26, at 9:30 a.m., at United Brethren Cemetery. In case of rain, it will be held at the Farmersburg Community Center.
