Alvin Eugene Billmeyer, Sr., 84, of Colesburg, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center in Dyersville.
No services will be held. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood assited the family with arrangements.
Alvin was born on June 13, 1941, in Iowa, the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Bolsinger) Billmeyer.
On March 5, 1965, Alvin was united in marriage to Betty Lou Miller in Dubuque. The couple lived in Dubuque for a short time before settling in Colesburg, where they raised their family and shared 55 years of marriage until Betty’s passing in 2020. Alvin worked for many years at Dubuque Packing Company.
Alvin enjoyed fishing, gambling, and spending time with his family. Alvin was a husband, father, and grandfather who found joy in the simple things in life.
Survivors include his seven children, Lisa (Barry) Wernke of Guttenberg, Alvin Billmeyer, Jr. of Edgewood, Alan Billmeyer of Colesburg, Aaron (Ali) Billmeyer of Greeley, Adam Billmeyer of Dubuque, Kevin (Carmen) Billmeyer of Dubuque, and Linda Billmeyer of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; four siblings, Jean Billmeyer, Rich Billmeyer, Larry Billmeyer, and Clarence “Pete” Horstman; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; siblings, Harold, Letha, Evalena, Edna, Clyde, George, and Shirley; half-siblings, Anna, Bertha, Fern, Donald, and Ivan; and daughter-in-law, Autumn Hall.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the MercyOne Medical Center staff in Dyersville and the Dubuque Hospice.
