MFL MarMac football players earn all-district honors

The Class 1A - District 5 all-district teams include 10 MFL MarMac football players. Kashton Decker and Will Howes were first team offense selections, while Eli Hanson and Hunter Christofferson were named to the first team defense. Bryce Jones is on the second team offense, then Tristan Hoopes, Blake Schutte and Kyler Nuehring on the second team defense. Cameron Hagensick and Auston Lind were honorable mention picks.

 

Additionally, senior Koda Warrington was one of three players in the district to receive the Golden Award, honoring athletes whose seasons were cut short due to injury.

 

Decker, a junior, led the Bulldogs with 453 rushing yards on 63 carries, and had the best yards-per-carry average on the team and second best in the district at 7.2. He also had a team-high 6 touchdowns. 

 

Howes, a senior, was an integral part of the offensive line that helped MFL MarMac rack up nearly 2,000 yards on the ground this season and limited sacks to the quarterback.

 

Despite a season-ending injury that forced him out of 3.5 games, Hanson was still one of the Bulldogs’ top defenders. The senior had 21.5 total tackles—16 of them solo efforts. 

 

Christofferson, a senior, was named to the second team defense as a punter. He punted 4 times for the Bulldogs, accruing 169 total yards, or a 42.2-yard average. That average was the best in the district.

 

Jones was a big threat in the MFL MarMac ground game, picking up 440 yards and 4 touchdowns over a team-high 80 carries. The junior averaged 5.4 yards per carry. He also caught 4 passes for another 55 yards.

 

Hoopes, a sophomore, earned 17 total tackles over the season—13 of them solo tackles—and he tied for a team high with 2.5 sacks. He also recovered a fumble.

 

Schutte tallied 31.5 total tackles his junior season, ranking him second on the team. Fourteen of those were solo tackles and 4 for a loss. His stat line also included a sack and an interception.

 

Nuehring, a senior, led the Bulldogs with 33.5 total tackles, including 24 solo and 2.5 for a loss. 

 

Hagensick, a junior lineman, had 14 tackles for MFL MarMac—11 solo and 2.5 for a loss—and forced a fumble. 

 

Lind, a senior, turned in 17.5 total tackles. Nine of those were solo and 1 for a loss, including half a sack. Offensively, Lind rushed for 367 yards and 3 touchdowns on 59 attempts. He averaged 6.2 yards per carry.
