The Central/Ed-Co boys wrestling team went 3-2 at the inaugural Central/Ed-Co Dual Tournament on Dec. 13, improving their overall dual record to 7-4.
The team lost its opening dual to Clear Lake 47-36, despite performing well in head-to-head matches. Jamison Feickert (126 pounds), Nolan Gaul (138), Cooper Brown (144), Braxton Bormann (150) and Colton Hoisington (165) all won their respective matches by fall, while George Reimer (132) earned a victory due to forfeit.
Clear Lake benefitted from three wins by forfeit, then earned falls over Zane Embretson at 175 pounds, Landon Glawe at 215 and Ben Pierschbacher at heavyweight, as well as technical falls against Central/Ed-Co’s Tallen Mormann at 126 and Isaiah Burns at 157.
Central Springs also proved to be a tough opponent, winning the second dual of the night 59-22. Brown, Bormann and Hoisington each secured a pin for Central/Ed-Co, and Feickert scored a 16-8 major decision for four points. Mormann, Reimer, Gaul, Embretson, Glawe and Pierschbacher all lost their matches by fall, while Burns dropped his bout by technical fall. The Panthers picked up forfeit points at 106, 113 and 190 pounds.
Central/Ed-Co got back in the win column in the third dual, edging West Carroll 36-33. West Carroll picked up some early wins with a forfeit at 106 pounds, then pins over Mormann and Feickert at 120 and 126 pounds. Reimer was also on the wrong end of a 6-4 decision at 132. However, Central/Ed-Co had a pair of falls from Brown and Bormann that inched the team closer. After Burns and Hoisington were both pinned, Central/Ed-Co then won the 175-, 215- and 285-pound matches by forfeit to seal the victory.
The team continued to roll against Galena, with falls by Mormann, Reimer, Embretson and Pierschbacher contributing to a 39-28 Central/Ed-Co win. Burns earned a 9-4 decision win, and Gaul and Bormann added to the point total thanks to forfeits. Feickert, Brown and Hoisington were pinned by their opponents, then Glawe lost by major decision. Galena won at 190 pounds due to forfeit.
Central/Ed-Co wrapped the tournament with a 39-27 victory over Clayton Ridge. The 106-, 120-, 126- and 285-pound weights were forfeits—the latter three all benefitting Central/Ed-Co. Reimer, Bormann and Embretson padded the score with pins, and Burns came out on top in a 7-2 decision. Brown and Kayden Williams (215) lost their matches by fall, Hoisington by technical fall and Gaul by major decision, giving the Eagles the remainder of their points.
This week, the team will compete in the annual Postville Holiday Border Battle on Dec. 18, then head to the Ron Dodd Viking Invitational at Northwood-Kensett on Dec. 20.
