The Prairie du Chien boys wrestling team traveled to the Woodside Dome in Wisconsin Dells this past Saturday, Dec. 13 for the annual Duals in the Dells Tournament and left after placing 16th out of 31 teams with a 1-4 record.

The Hawks advanced to the championship bracket thanks to defeating Wilmot Union 46-27. Next up for the Hawks was the Oconomowoc Raccoons. 

A senior laden team, led by the number two ranked wrestler in the country at 138 pounds in Kellen Wolbert, the Raccoons handed the Hawks a 55-21 defeat. The loss moved into the consolation side of the championship bracket and into a match against Chetek-Weyerhaeuser/Prairie Farm. The Bulldogs used seven consecutive match wins to outpace PdC by the score of 42-31.

Prairie du Chien then took on River Falls and fell just short 39-35 as each team won seven matches during the dual with Wildcats’ junior Isaiah Black (the son of Kevin Black, a forme All-American wrestler at Wisconsin) defeating PdC sophomore Keaton Achenbach 11-7 at 113 pounds to swing the momentum to River Falls.

The Hawks then concluded the tournament by taking on their third D1 opponent of the day in Chippewa Falls in the 15th place match. The Cardinals claimed 15th place with a 42-33 win over the Hawks. Going 5-0 on the day for the Hawks was junior Hunter Reid at 126 pounds and senior Jack Simmons at 285 pounds. 

Also wrestling on the day for the Hawks were Linus Wechsel, So. (3-2 at 106), Keaton Achenbach, So. (2-3 at 113), Tyson Fernette, Fr. (3-2 at 120), Gage Hrubes, Fr. (0-5 at 132), Landon Thiry (2-3 at 138), Brylee Brewer (3-2 at 144), Porter Kossman, Sr. (2-3 at 150), Mason Hird, Sr. (1-3 at 157, 0-1 at 165), Brady Baumgartner, Jr. (1-3 at 165, 0-1 at 157), Jake Kramer, So. (3-2 at 175), Payton Beinborn, Fr. (1-2 at 190), Cooper Simmons, Fr. (0-2 at 190) and Hunter Pohle, Fr. (1-4 at 215).

Prairie du Chien traveled to Elgin, Iowa this past Tuesday, Dec. 16 for a quad meet featuring Nashua-Plainfield, New Hampton/Turkey Valley and North Fayette Valley before traveling to Madison this Saturday for the Badger State Invitational at the Alliant Energy Center with wrestling beginning at 9:00 a.m.
