Judy Corinne Bender Moyna passed away peacefully on Dec. 11, 2025, at the age of 87. Judy was born on Aug. 23, 1938, the daughter of Arthur and Marinette Oelke Bender in Farmersburg.  

 

In high school, Judy played the trumpet, sang in the chorus and edited the school newspaper. She graduated as valedictorian of Elkader’s class of 1956 and graduated summa cum laude of the class of 1959 at Upper Iowa University with a double major. 

 

On May 31,1958, Judy and Gerald (Jerry) Moyna were married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Elkader. 

 

Judy taught social studies, language arts and business in Strawberry Point, Guttenberg, Volga and Elkader for 36 years, retiring in 2000. Her favorite hobby was genealogy. She was a charter member of the Clayton County Genealogical Society and belonged to several other genealogical societies in the area.

 

Judy is survived by her sons, Stephen Moyna of Altoona and James (Audrey) Moyna of Mundelein, Ill.; her grandchildren, Connor (Raechel) Moyna, Claire (Zakyus) Tate, Tyler (Karin) Moyna and Megan Moyna; her great-grandsons; her half-sisters, Lois (Jan) Wood and Kathy (Tim) Dillon; and her sisters-in-law, Erika Moyna and Kathy Moyna.

 

Judy was preceded in death by her best friend and husband, Jerry Moyna, and their daughter Kathleen. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Ann McClimon Moyna, parents and grandparents.  

 

A funeral is planned for May 8, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader.
