MFL MarMac ends week on two-game winning streak

Senior Wesley Corlett earned a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds versus the Warriors. He was also responsible for four of the team’s six blocks.

The MFL MarMac boys basketball team last week rebounded from an early loss to Central with victories over Turkey Valley and East Buchanan. 

 

Central shot over 42 percent from the field and knocked down 11 three-pointers in the 68-52 win over the Bulldogs in Monona on Dec. 16. MFL MarMac, meanwhile, made 35.6 percent of its shots and only five of 20 from behind the arc after consistently hitting double digits in that category the week prior.

 

Senior Wesley Corlett earned a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He was also responsible for four of the team’s six blocks.

 

Carter Lightfoot added 13 points, a team-high four assists, three rebounds, a steal and two blocks, while Tristan Bacon finished the night with 12 points, three assists, two rebounds and a steal.

 

After trailing through the first quarter and leading by just one point at halftime, the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half to defeat Turkey Valley 68-57 on Dec. 19. They shot better from the field and three-point range in this game, led by 22 points from Bacon. The junior also collected five rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

 

Lightfoot netted 15 points and a team-high seven assists, to go with four rebounds and two steals. Eli Hanson had a solid stat line of 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks. Corlett was just shy of another double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. He also dished out three assists and supported the defense with one steal and one block. Carsten Pester contributed seven points and five rebounds off the bench.

 

The Bulldogs carried that momentum into a 58-52 win over East Buchanan at the Border Battle in Decorah on Dec. 20. The win improved the team to 5-3 overall. They are 2-3 in the Upper Iowa Conference and currently sit in the middle of the pack in the big division standings.
