The Central/Clayton Ridge girls wrestling team racked up 117 points to finish fourth among 17 teams at the Central Elkader Girls Invitational on Dec. 16.
Senior Mayleigh Medberry led the effort, placing first at 130 pounds. After winning her opening match by technical fall, Medberry breezed through the remaining competition with three falls, including one in 1:20 over Juliana Burds of Alburnett in the championship match.
Two wrestlers—110-pound Kendall Wagner and 170-pound Mylee Mueller—were runners-up in their respective weight classes. Wagner secured a late fall over Devin Meyer of Oelwein in her first match, then had a 9-2 decision over West Delaware’s Addison Nielsen to advance to the title bout. There, she lost by fall to Braelyn Suckow from Sumner-Fred.
Mueller reached the 170-pound first-place match after picking up a technical fall and two falls to start the tournament. She was pinned by Tara Crowley of Center Point-Urbana to close out the night.
Daisha Allison was one of two Central/Clayton Ridge wrestlers who placed fourth. She started strong with a pin, before a technical fall loss bumped her to the back side of the 120-pound bracket. Allison rebounded with a fall in her third match, advancing her to the third-place bout. Sophia Dvorak of South Winn got the best of her there with a pin.
At 125 pounds, Maci Keppler scored a quick pin in her first match before dropping the next. She then earned three straight falls to reach the third-place match. A fall at the hands of NFV’s Joslyn Kraft landed her in fourth place.
Macie Cole lost her first two matches at 100 pounds, but finished the tournament on a high note, pinning Jacey Ryan of Starmont in less than a minute to place fifth.
Luz Hernandez and Addison Davis both went 1-2 in their respective 130- and 135-pound brackets, but did not place. Clair Orr (115 pounds) and Ava Abbott (170) lost two matches and did not place.
Central/Clayton Ridge finished the week at the Iowa Falls-Alden Girls Tournament on Dec. 19.
