January 5, 1945–December 19, 2025
Betty Jean Breitsprecher, age 80, of Monona, Iowa passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor, IA. Betty was Born on January 5, 1945, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Clarance A. Oswald and LaVerne E. Regal. She grew up on a small farm near Garnavillo, where she found endless joy riding horses and soaking in the beauty of the outdoors. Those early days shaped the free-spirited, nature-loving woman she would always be.
On November 26, 1963, Betty married Melvin F. Breitsprecher. Together they built a beautiful life, first in McGregor and later on their small farm in Sny Magill. While living on the farm they milked cows, raised horses and other farm animals which brought them both happiness. Betty poured her heart into the land and the animals, and for many years she delighted in volunteering with the Mendon Hustlers 4-H Club, guiding young hearts with the same warmth and encouragement she gave her own family.
After leaving the farm, Betty continued to call the McGregor and Monona area home . In her later years, simple pleasures lit up her days — watching her favorite shows, cuddling with her beloved dogs, and spending time with family and friends.
Betty will be forever remembered for her fierce tenacity, her wonderfully spicy attitude that kept everyone on their toes, and above all, her enormous, generous heart that embraced everyone she met.
She is survived by her two sons, Alan Breitsprecher and the Scott (Catherine) Breitsprecher; her grandchildren Catrina Mayer-Lynch (Patrick Lynch) and Gabrielle Breitsprecher, and extended grandchildren Clayton Davis and Makayla Davis
Betty was reunited in heaven with her parents, Clarance Oswald and LaVerne (Regal) Oswald; her husband, Melvin Breitsprecher; and son, Lester Breitsprecher.
In keeping with Betty’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. A burial service will be held in the spring. Betty’s Spirit lives on in every memory and in the countless hearts she touched ,She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
