STEAM cart projects inspire student problem solving and collaboration

Using materials from a new STEAM cart, which teacher Brent Pape added thanks to a grant, MFL MarMac students construct wind powered sail cars. (Photos by Audrey Posten)

Distance isn’t the main objective of the sail car project, according to teacher Brent Pape. It’s improving the car’s design, testing and retesting and problem solving in a group setting

The STEAM cart contains over two dozen pull-out drawers filled with materials for hands-on learning. There are motors, LED lights, batteries, gears, rubber bands, dowel rods and more. It even includes the tools necessary to assemble and disassemble projects.
