Luetta Jean Maehl

Luetta Jean (Hansel) Maehl, daughter of Frederick Hansel and Cora Dell (Hyde) Hansel, was born Oct. 28, 1928, at Osterdock. She was baptized in 1946 by Reverend Paul Kitterer and, in 1948, affirmed her baptismal faith in confirmation at Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church in Elkader. She was a graduate of Elkader High School in 1946.

Judy L. Knickerbocker

Judy L. Knickerbocker, age 79, of Prairie du Chien, Wis., passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg. She was born at the family home in National on Sept. 4, 1943, the daughter of Serenus and Sylveria (Nieland) Eilers. The youngest of seven children, Judy grew up on the family farm in National and attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Garnavillo. She moved to Prairie du Chien with her family and was employed at the 3M Company there for 32 years until retirement. Judy met the love of her life, Gary Knickerbocker, and they were married for 58 years and had three children. Gary preceded her in death on Jan.

Myron E. "Max" Abildtrup

Myron “Max” Eugene Abildtrup, 88, of Tucson, Ariz., passed away peacefully on Feb. 28, 2023 at home surrounded by family. Max was born Nov. 19, 1934, to Nels and Lillie (Jensen) Abildtrup at his parent’s home in Audubon. He graduated from Audubon County schools and then joined the Marine Corps in 1953 to 1956. After returning home from the service, he attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, where he met and eventually married Judith “Judy” Spenler on April 9, 1960. This union was blessed with a son, Mark, and a daughter, Julie.
