Joan M. Martin

Joan Mae (Steege Marchionda) Martin, age 80, of Muscoda, Wis., passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and support of her daughters at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, Wis., on June 13, 2023. Prior to her stay at Agrace, she was under the excellent care of CrestRidge Memory Care in Dodgeville, Wis., for three and a half years. She battled dementia with grace for nearly 10 years. She was born on March 3, 1943, in Winona, Minn., to the late Stanton and Wilhelmina Steege.

Melody Anne Moose, 57, of McGregor, passed away at her home on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. Melody was born Aug. 13, 1965, to Terrence and Winsome (O’Brien) Zinkle in Prairie du Chien, Wis. She graduated from Prairie High School in 1983.

Carolyn A. Smith

Our wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend Carolyn Alice Smith of Postville passed away peacefully with her family by her side Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Mayo Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn., after a short battle upon the reemergence of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She was 79.

John D. Kenn

John Daniel Kenn, 56, of Waipahu, Hawaii, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023, in Topeka, Kansas. His death was accidental and happened while working underneath a vehicle. He was born Aug. 2, 1966, in Woodstock, Ill., to Willard and Dorelaine (Manning) Kenn. While he was young, his family moved to Elkader, where John grew up and attended school. Upon graduation from Central Community High School in 1985, he joined the United States Army and became a mechanic. He served his country in both peace and war time. After he was honorably discharged in 1995, he worked as an auto mechanic until his retirement in 2017.

Dora K. 'Kay' Hefner

Dora “Kay” Kathleen Hefner, 88, of McGregor, died Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System, La Crosse, Wis., after a sudden illness. She was born May 23, 1934, to Neil and Catherine (Melvin) McCormick at home in rural Harpers Ferry. Kay graduated from Waukon High School in 1952.

Richard H. 'Dick' Jensen

Richard “Dick” H. Jensen, age 87, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2023, surrounded by family at the Good Samaritan Home, Waukon, from complications of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. At his request, there will be no funeral services. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the McGregor Historical Society, 256 Main St., McGregor, IA 52157 and to the Harpers Ferry Fire and Rescue Squad, 1050 Great River Road, Harpers Ferry, IA 52146. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

Kenneth C. Adney

Kenneth C. Adney, 82, of Care and Rehab nursing home in Boscobel, Wis., and formerly of Prairie du Chien, Wis., died Wednesday, May 5, 2023, at Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse, Wis., from complications of Covid. He was born on Jan. 17, 1941 to Walter and Lorain (Sawvell) Adney in Iowa City.

Thomas L. Franz

Thomas Lee Franz, 73, passed away peacefully May 4, 2023, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy from complications of Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Bodies Dementia. A memorial visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of memorial service at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 20, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Entombment will be held at a later date.
