Dwayne Farmer death notice

Dwayne Eldon Farmer, 70, of Marion, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 in his home surrounded by his loving family.    
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 10th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom, with a public vigil beginning at 4 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11th at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. A committal service, with military honors, will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Connie Sylvester February 9, 1947 to April 5, 2018


Connie Sylvester

Constance “Connie” Sylvester, age 71, of Elkader, IA, died Thursday, April 5, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Connie was born February 9, 1947 the only daughter of Sam and Winnie (Davidson) Liche in Anna Illinois. She graduated from Central High School in Elkader where she lived, loved and worked her entire life.
On June 12, 1965 Connie married the love of her life for the last 52 years Larry Sylvester at the Little Brown Church in Nashua Iowa. To that union three children were born Joe, Kari and Dan. Connie could often be found at C J Lanes in Elkader where she worked for the last 55 years.

Paul Schneider October 22, 1930 to March 30, 2018


Paul Schneider

Paul A. Schneider, 87, of Elkader died Friday March 30th, 2018, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Joseph’s Church in Elkader where Paul spent many hours remodeling and updating various areas of the church, parish hall, and convent. This was a labor of love for Paul as his father and uncles performed all the woodwork when the original church was built in 1898.

Marcia Fox August 13, 1952 to March 9, 2018

Marcia J. Fox, 65, of Cave Springs passed away in her home on March 9, 2018.  She was born August 13, 1952 in Oelwein, Iowa the daughter of LuRoy D. Fox and Ethel E. Lane.
She was survived by her two sons, Joseph Weidemann and Lawrence Schmitt, her siblings Diane Fox, Bart Fox, Carmen Fox, Ned Fox, and Dawn Fox.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Mark Fox and Lawrence Fox.

Andrea Potts

Andrea Lynne (Spreen) Potts was born in La Crosse, WI on April 29, 1975, to Barry and Linda Spreen. She was baptized in the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, but at home, by her dad’s cousin, Rev. Victor Hellman. The baptism was registered at Benediction Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI. She was confirmed in the faith at St. Paul Lutheran, Church McGregor, Iowa on March 19, 1989.

She was a gifted athlete in power tumbling, volleyball and track. In her time with USTA (United States Tumbling and Trampoline Association), she placed second in the National competition in her division as well as earning many other medals.

Richard “Dick” Heiden

Richard “Dick” Heiden, 83, of rural Elkader died suddenly Saturday, March 17, 2018, at his farm home. He was born August 10, 1934, in Prairie du Chien, WI to Fred Jr. and Irma (Stemmer) Heiden. He graduated from Elkader High School in 1953 where he was involved in sports. His love of baseball from a child on inspired him to try out for pro ball in Florida. His aspirations for a baseball career were cut short by a truck/train crash.

Virginia Anderson

Virginia Josephine Rosina Oldag Anderson was born December 17, 1926 in Postville, Iowa, the daughter of Alma (Ruckdaschel) Oldag and Edward Oldag.  She passed away on March 16, 2018 at the age of 91 years.

She was baptized and confirmed in St Paul’s Lutheran Church.  On June 7, 1949 she was married to Dale Anderson at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church by Rev. F. R. Ludwig.  They were the parents of two children, Douglas and an infant son.  They farmed south of Postville until 1985 when they moved to Postville.

Mildred Christianson

Mildred “Millie” Christianson, 89, of Edgewood, Iowa formerly of Froelich, Iowa died Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospice Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was born November 21, 1928, to Adolph and Mary (Johnson) Larson in rural Elkader, Iowa.

On January 29, 1948, Mildred was united in marriage with Millard Christianson. They later moved to Littleport to farm and start their family life farming. They moved to Froelich in 1961, where she lived until 2013. She enjoyed her grandchildren and being with friends, playing cards, reading and game shows.

Gary Lenth

Gary Arno Lenth, 81, of Atkins, Iowa, formerly of St. Olaf, passed away on March 9, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids due to complications from surgery. He was born on February 24, 1937, to Arno and Hilda (Huebner) in St. Olaf, Iowa. Gary graduated from Elkader School in 1954. He farmed with his dad until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in April, 1960. He served over in Germany and helped guard the Berlin wall. He was honorably discharged in April, 1962.

Donald Marmann

Donald Dean Marmann, 84, of Farmersburg. Iowa died March 12, 2018 at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, Iowa. Don was born at the rural Guttenberg home of his parents, Raymond and Pearl (Taake) Marmann on November 3, 1933. He was baptized and confirmed March 25, 1956 at the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Elkader by Rev. Paul Kitterer. Don received his education in rural country schools in Clayton County, acquiring his GED while in the military. Don was drafted into the service during the Korean War on June 9, 1953, receiving his honorable discharge on April 20, 1955, having spent most of his time in Germany.After returning home, he farmed for a while with his father and brother, Allan Dale.
