Potosi/Cassville stops Seneca-Wauzeka-Steuben 32-14
Generic American Football on green field

The Seneca-Wauzeka-Steuben Bluegolds traveled to Cassville this past Friday night as the Potosi/Cassville co-op’s opponent as part of the Comets’ 2026 homecoming celebration.

S-W-S entered the game following an interesting week for the co-op as Seneca and Wauzeka-Steuben High Schools both joined with Ithaca and Weston High Schools to appeal the WIAA’s decision to award a forfeit win to Seneca-Wauzeka-Steuben instead of a no-contest after the week two cancellation of their game due to the tragic death of Ithaca freshman Briggs Maxwell.

Following an outcry of public support for the four schools after the WIAA originally ruled against the appeal, the decision was made late last week to change the game to a non-contest. The move kept the I-W Bulldogs undefeated on the season, potentially helping their postseason seeding. The Bluegolds sided with the Bulldogs even though a forfeit win could have potentially helped get Seneca-Wauzeka-Steuben into this year’s playoffs.

On the field, it was Potosi/Cassville who struck first on Friday night, taking an 8-0 lead in the first quarter. The two teams would trade touchdowns and two-point conversions in the second quarter as P/C held onto a 16-8 lead at halftime.

Potosi/Cassville would go on to score another touchdown and two-point conversion in the third and fourth quarters while the Bluegolds were held to a single fourth quarter touchdown with no conversion in the second half as Potosi/Cassville (4-2 overall, 3-1 in the Six Rivers Conference) defeated Seneca-Wauzeka-Steuben (0-5 overall, 0-4) by the score of 32-14.

Stats were unavailable as of press time. Despite the loss on the field, the Bluegolds earned a win off the field in the high school sports world thanks to the selflessness of the co-op and the two high schools in joining together to help fight for a program still dealing with grief following last month’s tragedy in Ithaca.
