The Gays Mills Grizzlies entered the last week of the 2026 regular season with a doubleheader at West Salem last Monday, July 13.

Game one was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when the Grizzlies got on the scoreboard thanks to a two out RBI single by Cooper Lomas. The Grizzlies would go on to score three more runs in the top of the sixth inning, including a RBI groundout by Brody Ray, to extend their lead to 4-0. West Salem would score a run in the bottom of sixth inning but that would be all they would get as the Grizzlies would hold on for the 4-1 win.

Jackson Konichek started and earned the win on the mound for Gays Mills, allowing one run (unearned) on one hit and four walks with two strikeouts in 6.2 innings (including taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning). Jack Gallagher came into the game in relief of Konichek to get the final out for the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies started game number two with one run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead before West Salem answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, three in the second inning and one in the third innings. Gays Mills would rally for a run in the the fourth inning and three runs in the top of the fifth inning but ultimately fell short as West Salem held on for the 6-5 win in five innings.

Sawyer Stluka took the loss for Gays Mills, allowing five runs (three earned) on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings pitched. Kaden Roberts finished the game on the mound, allowing one run (unearned) on one hit and zero walks with one strikeout in 2.2 innings pitched.

Landry Stluka (2-for-3 with a double and one run scored) and Jack Gallagher (2-for-3 with a double and one RBI) each had a multi-hit game in the loss. John Turner added a pinch hit double and Lomas had two RBIs for the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies ended their regular season schedule this past Sunday at Westby. The host Bandits scored three times in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead and never looked back as they dealt Gays Mills a 12-2 loss in five innings. The Grizzlies cut the score to 8-2 thanks to a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning before Westby/Coon Valley ended the game via ten-run rule with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Jack Gallagher started on the mound for Gays Mills, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 1.2 innings pitched before being relieved by his brother Sam Gallagher (four runs allowed on three hits and five walks with two strikeouts in 2.0 innings pitched) and Miles Kandler (four runs allowed (zero earned) on four hits and one walk in 0.2 innings pitched).

The Grizzlies offense was held to six hits in the loss with Lomas (2-for-3) and Roberts (2-for-3 with two RBIs) each having multiple hits in the game.

Gays Mills (8-7) will begin postseason play this Thursday at the Stoddard regional when they take on Prairie du Chien at 3:30 p.m. at Stoddard Village Park.
