Facing a light week schedule wise last week, the Seneca Royals baseball team made the most of their one game by defeating North Crawford 3-2 last Tuesday, April 28.
The Royals scored once in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead. North Crawford responded immediately with a run of their own in the top of the third inning before the Royals retook the lead with two more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Both offenses quieted down until the top of the seventh inning when the Trojans scored with two outs to make the score 3-2 with the tying run at third base. The Royals got the Trojans to fly out to left field to end the game, sealing the win for Seneca.
Sam Gallagher got the ball to start the game on the mound for the Royals and he earned the win after allowing just two runs on four hits and two walks with nine strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched. Jackson Konichek got the save after pitching the final inning and allowing zero runs, hits or walks.
The Royals offense was held to four total hits, with Jax Wall (2-for-2 with a triple and one run scored) having half of the teams’ total. Konichek (1-for-3 with a double) and Kaden Roberts (1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI) had the teams’ other two hits.
Seneca improved their season record to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the Ridge & Valley Conference with the wins. The Royals’ schedule picked back up this week, with four games in five days. Seneca started this week with games at La Farge and River Ridge on Monday and Tuesday respectively before they end the week by hosting De Soto tomorrow night and traveling to Viroqua this Friday evening at 5:30 p.m.
