Kids (and adults) can look forward to another Mississippi River Adventure Day in just a few weeks. The Prairie du Chien Rotary Club announced the event will take place at Lawler Park on Monday, Aug. 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Adventure Day is a free event hosted by the Prairie du Chien Rotary Club and the Upper Mississippi River National Refuge. Lunch will be provided for all participants. The event is open to children from both the Wisconsin and Iowa sides of the river.

“This event is one of the best ways we can highlight the unique features of the Mississippi River and the surrounding area. The kids all leave with smiles on their faces and a new appreciation for the outdoors,” said Anton Mayer, chair of the Mississippi River Adventure Day event.

According to a release from the Rotary, the event is expected to bring more than 125 children from the area to the event along with their adult chaperones.

The event gives children opportunities to learn about the river’s habitat, including the animals and plants that inhabit it as well as the historical events that shaped the river into what it is today.

The Rotary Club said 125 kids attended the MRAD in 2025.

At the moment, the club has announced four organizations that will run activity areas: The Prairie du Chien Rod and Gun Club, Genoa National Fish Hatchery, Clayton County Conservation and Osborn Nature Center and the Wisconsin Bat Ambassadors. Other organizations are expected to take part in the event as well.
