With a pair of losses to Juda/Albany followed by another loss to New Glarus/Monticello, coach Wade Winkers’ River Ridge softball team fell to 6-7 in Six Rivers conference play and 11-7 overall.
In back-to-back conference games against Juda/Albany last Tuesday and Thursday, the Timberwolves were handed losses of 6-1 and 1-0.
In Patch Grove last Tuesday night, the Timberwolves were limited to just two hits against Juda/Albany pitcher Ryleigh Brown, who struck out 13 River Ridge batters and walked one.
The only two batters to get a hit off Brown were Abby Doyle and Keele Redman, with Doyle lacing a double in the bottom of the sixth. Josey Drone drew her team’s only walk.
In the circle for River Ridge, Erin Adrian gave up six runs, five earned, off nine hits in a complete seven-inning performance. She also struck out five batters and walked five in receiving the loss.
On the following Thursday night, River Ridge plated seven runners in a 1-0 loss, but failed to score a single run.
Of River Ridge’s four hits, Josey Drone and Abby Doyle each accounted for two, as Adrian, Meghyn Breuer and Reese Moravits each drew a walk.
The Timberwolves had two legitimate scoring opportunities in the contest, the first coming in the top of the third, where Breuer drew a lead-off walk and Drone had a one-out single.
A fly out and strikeout left runners stranded at first and second to end the threat though.
River Ridge’s best chance to score came in the top of the sixth, where Drone and Doyle had back-to-back singles to start the inning, and eventually had runners at second and third with no outs.
An intentional walk to Adrian loaded the bases with one out, but the inning ended when Drone was caught stealing home and then Doyle caught stealing third.
Juda/Albany put up their only run of the contest in the bottom of the third, where back-to-back one-out singles produced the winning run.
Pitching all six innings for the Timberwolves, Adrian gave up just one earned run off six hits, while striking out seven batters and walking four.
On the following Friday night the Timberwolves took to the road against New Glarus/Monticello, where they were sent home with an 8-1 loss.
Coach Wade Winkers’ squad was limited to just three hits, and scored their only run of the game in the fifth inning, where freshman Layla Gage scored on a wild pitch.
Adrian pitched all six innings for River Ridge, giving up eight runs, only two of which were earned, off 10 hits. She also struck out two batters and walked five in receiving the loss.
