The Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets Volleyball team earned the number four seed and a home match in the regional semifinal round against the fifth seed River Ridge Timberwolves. The four vs. five matchup in sports tends to be a very even, back-and-forth contest as both teams tend to be very similar. That was no different when it came to the Hornets and Timberwolves match last Thursday night, Oct. 22.

The Hornets started the match by winning the first set 26-24 before the Timberwolves claimed the next two sets 25-23 and 25-21 to put Wauzeka-Steuben on the brink of elimination. The hosts rallied in the fourth set, earning a 25-23 win to force a fifth and final set. Unfortunately for the hosts, River Ridge would respond with a 15 to 8 win in the fifth set to win the match 3 sets to 2 and advance to the regional final at Seneca two nights later.

Wauzeka-Steuben ends their season with an overall record of 12-4. The Hornets finished the 2026 regular season second in the Ridge & Valley Conference with a league record of 11-3, behind only Seneca (14-0). The Hornets will graduate four seniors off this year’s team - Olivia Colson, Alayna Krachey, Violet Mitchell and Claire Wright.
