The Prairie du Chien Blackhawks Varsity Baseball traveled to Onalaska last Tuesday, May 26 to wrap up the regular season with a non-conference game against the Hilltoppers and the Hawks were dealt a 14-4 loss in five innings.

Things started out on the right foot for the Hawks as they took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. That would be the highlight of the game for PdC as Onalaska would score eight times in the bottom of the first inning to take a lead they would never relinquish. The Hilltoppers would go on to add a run in the bottom of the second inning, two more runs in the third and end the game via 10-run rule in the fifth inning with three final runs. PdC scored once in the top of the third and twice more in the top of the fourth but could not get any closer.

The Hilltoppers hammered the Hawks pitching while also taking advantage of five errors by the PdC defense. Starting pitcher Jack Simmons took the loss after allowing eight runs (only two were earned) on four hits and two walks in 0.1 inning pitched. PdC pitchers Jacob Mara (zero runs allowed on one hit and one walk with one strikeout in 0.2 innings pitched), Cayden Sutter (three runs allowed on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts in 3.0 innings pitched) and Prestin Nolan (three runs allowed on two hits and zero walks in 0.1 innings pitched) did not fare much better on the mound in relief of Simmons.

Prairie du Chien had seven hits in the loss, including a 3-for-3 day (with a double, two runs scored and one RBI) by Drake Chesebro. Nolan (2-for-3 with one RBI) also collected multiple hits in the loss for PdC. Sophomores Jacob Mara (1-for-3 with one RBI) and Mike Jasdzewski (1-for-1 with two walks and one run scored) also each had a hit in the loss.

The Hawks traveled to Muscoda two days later for a D3 regional quarterfinal game against the Riverdale Chieftains and it was all Riverdale from the start as they ended the Hawks season with a 9-0 loss.

Riverdale opened up the scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning before adding two more runs in the second, five runs in the third and one more in the fourth. Simmons, the Hawks starting pitcher, took the loss after allowing three runs on three hits and three walks with one strikeout in 1.2 innings pitched.

He was relieved by Mara (five runs allowed (two earned) on one hit and four walks with two strikeouts in 0.2 innings pitched and Drake Chesebro (one run allowed on two hits and four walks with four strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched). The Hawks struggled to find the plate in the game, walking 11 Riverdale batters while also hitting three batters and throwing two wild pitches in the loss.

Drake Chesebro once again led the Hawks hitters, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. Mara (1-for-3) and Sutter (1-for-2) had the Hawks other two hits in the loss.

Prairie du Chien sees their 2026 season come to a close with an overall record of 6-15. The Hawks graduate four seniors off this year’s team in Nolan, Simmons, Deacon Chesebro and Westin Marx.
