Dwain Marlin Wolter, 92 of Luana, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Oct. 3, 2026, surrounded by family.
Born March 31, 1934, on a farm north of Elgin, Iowa, Dwain was the son of George and Agnes (Ames) Wolter. Dwain had one brother, Donavon. Dwain married the love of his life, Jean Corlett on January 31, 1953 in McGregor, Iowa. They were happily married for 73 years. 73 YEARS!
Dwain graduated from the Luana Consolidated High School where he participated in basketball and baseball. Dwain attended and played baseball at Luther College, before returning home to help with the family business and care for his mom who had cancer. Dwain was a successful business man owning and operating Wolter’s Truck Service and the Monona Stockyards, but most of all he was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and uncle. While Dwain lost his only brother, Donavon to a tragic accident when he was only 8 years old; Dwain had five sister-in-laws (Norma, Francis (Corky), Ivanelle, Marylin, Mary) and one brother-in-law (John (Bud)) who he deeply loved and cherished. Dwain was a lifelong resident of Luana, and very involved in the community having served on the St. John’s Lutheran Church board, as the St. John’s Cemetery Custodian, the Luana City Council, the Luana Fire Department, Boy Scout Troop 38 Council, a founding member of the Tri-City Country Club and board, among many others. Dwain truly lived life by the golden rule, “Treat others the way you want to be treated!”
Dwain enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, fishing, camping, roller skating, the Iowa Hawkeyes, the St. Louis Cardinals, traveling, mowing grass, auctions, and visiting with family and friends. Highlights include elk hunting in Colorado, Idaho and Montana with friends; trips to China and Europe with Jean, rolling a 298 at the Iowa State Bowling tournament; and watching his grandkids play sports. As with many people of his generation, Dwain was capable of fixing or building anything, including building 3 houses in his lifetime. More than anything, he loved his family and the love of his life, Jean.
He is survived by his son Laine Wolter of Oxford Junction, Iowa, son Rick (Janeen) Wolter of LaCrescent, Minn., son Mark (Krista) Wolter of Johnston, Iowa, daughter Susan (Ted) Nus of Ankeny, IA, son Dennis (Melissa) Wolter of Keokuk, Iowa. His grandchildren: Wade (Kori) Wolter, Jake Wolter, Alicia Wolter, Ben (Caitlyn) Wolter, Alexis (Ben) Porepp, Jeremiah (Molly) Nus, Kendall (fiancé Connor Boger) Nus, Damon Wolter, Alex Wolter, and Abby Jean Wolter. His great grandchildren: Alaina Wolter (fiancé Mason Lebeck), Landry Wolter, Shelby Wolter, Lena Wolter, and Graham Wolter.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother Donavon, his wife Jean, sister-in-laws Norma Krohn, Francis (Corky) Peterson, Ivanelle (Ivy) Sauer, Marylin Ellis, and Mary Bohlen, his brother-in-law John (Bud) Corlett, brother-in law, Milbert Krohn, brother-in-law Chuck Sauer, and sister-in-law, Connie Corlett.
