Dyan L. Winkers, also known as “Granny Dyan”, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
She was born April 4, 1939 and was the daughter of Frank and Grace Maurer. Dyan grew up in West Allis, Wisconsin. She married John “Jack” Winkers on August 9, 1958 and they built a life together in Woodman, Wisconsin.
She was a “household engineer” throughout her life. Dyan not only raised 4 sons, but was also an integral part in raising every single one of her grandchildren. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was sure to tell everyone that she now had over 20 great grandchildren!
Dyan took pride in being a volunteer and giving her time and expertise to organizations. Her most prestigious volunteerism was being the secretary of Wisconsin Little Britches Rodeo for many years. Dyan won the Charlie Award from the Port Edwards Lions Club in recognition of outstanding service for the improvement of Wisconsin Little Britches Rodeo in 2002. Dyan also spent time volunteering at Crossing Rivers Health for over 5 years.
She will be remembered for her infectious smile, her sweet tooth, a witty sense of humor, her famous tea and toast and for enjoying a crown and coke from time to time.
Dyan is survived by her 4 sons, Bill Winkers of Louisville, KY, John (Lynn) Winkers of Woodstown, NJ, Scott (Conny) Winkers of Woodman, WI, and Steven (Tammie) Winkers of Blue River, WI; her grandchildren, Wade (Molly) Winkers, Travis (Trinity) Winkers, Billi Jo (Ted) Leibfried, Jamie (Chris) Peterson, Vella (Chad) Halvorson, Tyrel (Alison) Winkers, Weston (Dani) Winkers, Leah (Deven) Walrack, Shelby Winkers, McKayla (Brett) Kaber; many great grandchildren: Colby and Dawsyn Winkers, Bella, Beau, and Bishop Winkers, Lexi and Abby Doyle, Aidan Leibfried, Kristy Nelson, Katie Peterson, CJ and Shayla Halverson, Cheyenne and Lane Winkers, Maysen Winkers, Temperance, Scout and Jules Walrack, and Brinlee, Brody and Brooks Kaber.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
A special thank you to Granny’s Agrace Hospice team over the past many months. Kristen, Brooke, Bryce, and Renae– your care and compassion for Granny was remarkable. She was ever so thankful. You made such a difference!
A Celebration of Life for Dyan will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2026 from 1:00 until 4:00 PM at the PINE TREE INN, 38532 US-18, Prairie du Chien, WI 53821.
