Hawks, Hornets run at conference meets

Local cross country teams last week got one last race in as they prepared for the postseason trail this weekend and that race was the conference championship meet.

The Hornets ran in the Ridge & Valley Conference championship meet at De Soto last Thursday, Oct. 16 and came back with a couple top-3 team finishes. The Hornet boys placed third out of seven teams with 77 points, while the Hornet girls finished second with 45 points.

The leading finisher for both teams was junior Nolan Reed-Mullikin, who finished in third place in a time of 20:11 to earn first team all-conference honors. Natalie Wright took fifth in the girls race in a time of 24:38 to also earn first team all-conference recognition. Earning second team all-conference honors for the Hornets was Emma Udelhoven (ninth place, 25:56), Isabella Bunders (11th place, 26:26), Alayna Martin (12th place, 26:35), Stella Walz (13th place, 26:45) and Leah Peralta (14th place, 27:24). Also running at the meet for the Hornet girls was Abby Wright in 17th place (29:08), Mallory McCullick in 20th place (29:46), Brianna Ray in 25th place (30:55), Brynnlee Benoy in 27th place (31:00), Avery Kilburg in 33rd place (32:39) and Ellah Jones in 36th place (36:00).

Finishing the race for the Hornet boys after Reed-Mullikin were teammates Cody Wagner in 17th place (22:07), Wyatt Mullikin in 18th place (22:14), Theo Millin in 29th place (25:07), Bentley Dums in 36th place (26:29) and Brody Bunders in 37th place (26:34).

Prairie du Chien Cross Country runners traveled to Platteville on Thursday, Oct. 16 for the SWC Championship Meet. The Hawks placed fourth as a team with 109 points, while the girls finished in sixth place with 138 points.

Sam Kramer was the top finisher for both teams, placing eighth overall in a time of 16:57 to earn second team all-conference honors. He was followed in the boys race by Landon Smith in 16th place (17:53), Lane Henderson in 20th place (18:18), Kaden Kvamme in 38th place (19:52), Joey Kramer in 45th place (20:22), Matt Kramer in 59th place (21:50), Caleb Mezera in 61st place (21:52), Carter Neis in 63rd place (22:01) and Drew Becwar in 68th place (24:57).

The PdC girls team was led by Karly Kramer in 15th place with a time of 22:01. She was followed by Kennady Fradette in 19th place (22:11), Kate Gebhard in 39th place (24:51), Mairany Morales in 40th place (25:17), Autumn Ziegler in 46th place (26:37), Kayli Schnitzler in 48th place (26:42), Mya Mahr in 52nd place (29:28), Katelyn Mathies in 55th place (30:27) and Lyla Redman in 58th place (31:10).

Prairie du Chien Country Club will once again play host to the D3 Sectional Meet this Saturday, Oct. 25 with the first race scheduled to begin at noon.
