Lloyd “Butch” Joseph Smith, 78, of Prairie du Chien passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Lancaster Health Services in Lancaster, WI.
He was born on April 27, 1948, to Thomas and Darlene (Tippery) Smith. He married Norma Luster on June 17, 1994, at Prairie Villa Rendezvous in Prairie du Chien, WI.
He attended school at St. Gabriels in Prairie du Chien, then high school at Prairie School District. He entered the Marine Corps in 1966 and served in Vietnam from 1967-1969. He was a member of the Big River Long Rifles Inc. of Prairie du Chien for over 48 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and enjoyed going to Wyoming over the years with the guys antelope hunting. He was also a member of the 4th Ward in Prairie du Chien, where he grew up.
He is survived by his wife Norma; children: Bill (Amanda) Tieman of Prairie du Chien, Russell (Jillian) Smith of Prairie du Chien, Jeremy (Jessica) Smith of Soldiers Grove, WI, Felisha Gadouas (Kevin) of Wauzeka, WI; stepchildren: Brandy Brown, Grey Tennessee, and Jason (Kristan) Dahlstrom of Waukon, IA; 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brothers: Kenneth Smith of Holy Cross, IA, Terry Smith of Bagley, WI, and George Smith of Cassville, WI; brothers-in-law, Harry (Wendy) Luster of Monona, IA; Randy (Sindee) Gohde of McGregor, IA; many close friends: Gerry (Julie) Rosauer, Joe Finney, Tracy Hutchins, and Bob (Cecilia) Becwar.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Dusty Smith; maternal grandparents, Lloyd (Morgan) and Susan Tippery; sister Shirley Gohde; granddaughter Olivia Smith; nephew James Smith; Uncle Vincent Tippery Sr; Aunt Donna and Uncle Dick Leyde.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the family.
Family is holding a Graveside Service with Military Rites at 11:00 AM on October 3, 2026, at the Calvary Cemetery in Prairie du Chien. A Celebration of Life/Luncheon will follow from noon until 4:00 PM at The Fireman’s Shelter on St. Feriole Island, Prairie du Chien.
