Volleyball seasons conclude

The 11th seeded Prairie du Chien Blackhawks journeyed to Darlington last Tuesday, Oct. 21 for a D3 regional quarterfinal match against the sixth seed Redbirds.

The host Redbirds earned a 3-0 sweep of the Hawks with set wins of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-12. The Hawks will graduate five seniors in Paisley Dressler, Makenzie Gates, Yuliia Levchuk, Laura Sturmer and Elle Scheneider.

The Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets Volleyball team opened regional play last Tuesday, Oct. 21 by hosting the Weston Silver Eagles. Tthe Hornets once again swept the Silver Eagles in three sets (25-13, 25-19 and 25-19) to advance to the D5 regional semifinal at second seed Highland two nights later. 

The Cardinals (22-4) swept the Hornets 25-12, 25-14 and 25-17 to advance to the regional final against Wonewoc-Center this past Saturday night. The Hornets (13-6) will graduate three seniors in Macy Mitchell, Claudia Walz and Natalie Wright.

Seneca earned a first-round bye as the third seed so they began postseason play last Thursday, Oct. 23 against sixth seed Wonewoc-Center in the D5 regional semifinals. 

The Wolves won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-22 before the Royals won the third set 28-26 to keep the match alive. Wonewoc-Center would however win the fourth match 25-22 as Seneca’s season came to a close. 

The Royals end the season 23-5 overall and will graduate two seniors in Camryn Lenzendorf and Raya Wallin.
